The Wayne County Health Department had the first of its H1N1 vaccination clinics Monday in Richmond.
The Wayne County Health Department will be ready to administer 100 doses of FluMist H1N1 vaccine today, a number that could increase if the department receives an expected vaccine order today, county health director Eric Coulter said. FluMist is only for non-pregnant, healthy people ages 2 to 49.

Residents are encouraged to check the department's "flu line" at (765) 973-9294 or the Palladium-Item's Web site on the availability of vaccine. That information should be posted in both places by 1 p.m. today, Coulter said.

The clinic is located on South Second Street.

Because of the small supply, the department administered only 100 doses at Monday's clinic, which had people from as far away as Indianapolis and New Castle in line for the nasal vaccine, Coulter said. Demand for the H1N1 vaccine has also been strong at physicians' offices, including obstetrician and pediatrician practices, which serve the target populations, said preparedness coordinator Porter Miller. The department is also still working on immunizing all health care workers, another priority group, Coulter said.
