FACEBOOK CLUE TO FIREWORKS YOBS WHO KILLED MOTHER OF NINE
POLICE hunting the yobs who started a fire that killed a mother of nine are trawling social networking websites for clues.
Mary Fox, 59, died in the blaze, caused by fireworks pushed through her letter box on bonfire night.
She had helped her 17-year-old son, Raum, through a first-floor window before going back to save her cats.
Officers said they had tip-offs pointing to websites like Facebook and MySpace after being inundated with calls from the public.
Detective Chief Inspector Paul Burgan, who is leading the investigation in Bodmin, Cornwall, said: “We’ve received some useful information but we’re still keen to hear from anybody who thinks they may know something that could help.
“We are investigating some positive leads and the investigation team are determined to bring whoever did this to justice to ensure that the family get some kind of closure after this awful and tragic incident.”
A spokesman for Devon and Cornwall Police added: “This case has had a massive amount of attention and people have mentioned social networking sites. All of them will be thrown into the investigation.”
Witnesses said they saw a gang of boys outside Mrs Fox’s home, laughing as it went up in flames at about 7.15pm last Thursday.
A neighbour said: “I saw three youths outside her house when it was on fire. They were shouting: ‘Shame, shame, shame’ in a sort of taunting, sarcastic way.
“I think one of the boys is about 12 and then there are two older ones.
“The house was already well alight by then with flames two feet high coming from the downstairs.”
Another neighbour added: “We know who did this, the police know who did it. It is just a matter of time before they either walk into the police station or they are arrested.
