Lululemon Receives Poor Climate Rating in Emissions Study

An environmental assessment reveals that Lululemon, headquartered in Vancouver, is significantly off-track in meeting its greenhouse gas (GHG) reduction goals. Despite aiming to reduce emissions intensity by 60% by 2030, projections indicate that the company's emissions could be up to nine times higher than the set target. This places Lululemon among the least environmentally friendly fashion giants, including brands like Nike, Adidas, H&M, and Chanel, as per the report's findings.

Despite Lululemon's silence on the matter, its public communications emphasize initiatives like the adoption of recycled materials and plant-based nylon to reduce carbon footprint. The company is also actively participating in initiatives, such as the Apparel Impact Institute's program, which aims to eliminate approximately 100 million tonnes of CO2 from the fashion industry's supply chains.

It's worth noting that the fashion sector, a vast industry worth trillions, accounts for 8% of global GHG emissions. A significant portion of these emissions stems from the industry's reliance on coal for manufacturing and production processes, predominantly in Asian regions.
